Department of Geoinformatics – Z_GIS is a leading centre of competence in GIScience – campus wide, nationally and globally. The Z_GIS agenda emphasizes applied research, continuing education and industry cooperation. We strive to create new knowledge through research funded by international research frameworks, focusing on methodologies and applications across a broad range of domains. Knowledge is then transferred into professional practice and various industries through educational programmes on certificate, master’s and doctoral levels. The team of Z_GIS researchers contribute their expertise to academic study programmes and research initiatives at the University of Salzburg and are deeply involved in cooperation with a range of international partner organizations.
Z_GIS has a worldwide network of partners. These are well recognized academic institutions and innovative companies leading the field of Geographical Information Science and the evolution of GIS applications.
