SPACIT @ the GI_Forum 2014
The GI_Forum 2014 takes place from July 1st to July 4th in Salzburg, Austria. This year’s motto “Geospatial Innovation for Society” sets the stage for keynote addresses, presentations, workshops and exhibitions that focus on innovations in technology, science education in the spatial domain, and their possible contribution to a more just, ethical and sustainable society. The GI_Forum is an annual conference and welcomes an international audience from academia, industry and governmental organizations. Over 1000 participants attend the conference every year. One of this year’s Keynote addresses will be given by Diana Sinton from the National Council for Geographic Education (NCGE) our US partner in the SPACIT project. Her keynote address is expected to trigger discussions in and outside the lecture halls on strengthening connections between research, practice and education. The Learning with GI conference track will offer sessions on a variety of topics from citizen science and spatial citizenship to curriculum development, youth and urban space as well as GI-supported outdoor education. A discussion panel on how much GI(S) is needed in initial teacher education will round up the track. From the SPACIT project team Uwe Schulze from University Frankfurt will present “Spatial Citizenship – Creating a Curriculum for Teacher Education”.
