On November 19th 2014 the annual world GIS Day was celebrated around the world. GIS Day is an initiative to provide a forum for users of geographic information systems (GIS) technology and geography to demonstrate real world applications to the interested public. The Department of Geoinformatics Z_GIS at University Salzburg with support from the SPACIT project and in co-operation with “Schüler Uni” launched this year’s event in Salzburg, Austria. Over 300 12 to 17 year old pupils from different schools around Salzburg state had the opportunity to enjoy a wide ranging program with thirteen exciting GIS demonstrations, hands on sessions and outdoor activities.
