EUROGEO

EUROGEO is a European, non-governmental, non-profit organisation. It is the European scientific and educational society which was founded in 1979 with the participation of the European Commission. The association networks geographers from all economic and academic sectors and organisations who are interested in the theory, methods and practice of Geography and its related disciplines. EUROGEO has individual and organisational members from 26 European countries.EUROGEO has had participatory NGO status in the Council of Europe since 1983. It is the voice of Geography and geographers in Europe, lobbying at European and national levels. EUROGEO therefore represents an extensive end user base for CH FUSION and a dissemination platform. The association publishes two online journals (EJG-the European Journal of Geography and RIGEO – Review of International Geographical Education Online) and is involved in a variety of research and network projects.

The Association aims to:

  • develop, support and promote policies designed to advance the status of Geography
  • establish and promote cross-border cooperation in the field of Geography
  • promote education and training in Geography from a European perspective
  • represent nationally and internationally the views of its members

To achieve this goal, the activities of the Association include:

  • organising conferences, events and activities for members
  • producing publications for members
  • supporting geographers in their jobs and careers
  • supporting the teaching of geography
  • identifying and promoting good practise
  • co-operating with such bodies as the European Union, the Council of Europe and geographical and other relevant organisations;
  • lobbying at European and where relevant national level
  • providing a forum for the discussion of matters of common interest to geographers
  • giving advice on geography
  • making recommendations to decision makers
